The Jefferson County Board of Education (JCBE) today appointed Dr. Keith Look to serve as the district’s new at-large board member, following a special meeting during which board members interviewed nine qualified applicants for the vacant position.
“Look brings new perspective, educational experience, and a commitment to serving the students, families, and employees of Jefferson County Public Schools,” said Board Chair Dr. Corrie Shull. “We appreciate every applicant who participated in this process and shared a willingness to serve our community.”
Look, a former JCPS principal at Meyzeek Middle School and the Academy @ Shawnee, also previously served as the superintendent of Danville Independent School District. He currently serves as vice president of education and workforce solutions at Territorium and as an executive coach with the St. Louis University School of Education.
As an at-large board member, Look will help set policies that govern the district, join fellow board members in evaluating the superintendent, and participate in decisions involving the district budget, operations, and educational priorities.
“As a JCPS administrator, I signed every correspondence with the African proverb, “We lift as we climb,” Look said. “In the interim, at-large role, I strive to continue that same pursuit for all of JCPS, from Portland to Prospect, from Shawnee to Shively.”
Look holds a Doctorate of Education in Education Policy & Practice and a Master of Education in Leadership in Professional Education, both from the University of Pennsylvania.
Look cited his background as a JCPS graduate, parent, and former administrator as key assets for guiding the board and superintendent through upcoming state-mandated structural reforms. He emphasized that his national education and workforce experience will bring a fresh, forward-looking vision to the district as it prepares its next strategic plan.
“As a former Kentucky superintendent, I understand the demands from the broad array of constituents as well as the myriad of tasks it takes simply to run a district and advance its financial sustainability, facility development, and student achievement,” Look said in his application.
The board vacancy was created following the resignation of former board member James Craig. Under state law and district policy, the remaining members of the JCBE were required to appoint an individual to fill the unexpired term.
The board received nine applications for the vacancy and conducted interviews during the August 24 special meeting. Application materials were made available through the district’s public notice process.
