LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Jefferson County Board of Education voted five to two in favor of approving new organizational charts for the District. These changes are estimated to save about $30.8 million for the 2026-27 school year.

“Stability in our organization creates stability in the classroom,” Superintendent Dr. Brian Yearwood said. “This ensures we can support classrooms consistently and sustainably, now and into the future.”

Data and Funding Overview

An estimated 648 positions were eliminated in the new organizational charts. An additional 32 positions were reduced in grade and/or days and may have new titles. Of the 648 eliminated positions, 331 are AICs, bookkeepers/clerks, and safety administrators. 121 of those positions are being centralized and will be added to the new organizational charts.

When combining the savings from eliminated positions and reduced positions, the total savings is $109,611,601. This amount includes the strategic reduction of AICs, bookkeepers/clerks, and safety administrators from the school level.

273 positions have been added to the new organizational charts, which also include the centralization of positions outlined above.  Adding these positions has resulted in $78,779,539 salary and benefit costs.  All of these positions require candidates to apply and be selected by the hiring manager.

Overall Impact

When combining the savings from eliminated positions and reduced positions, the total savings is $109,611,601.  The total expense of added positions is $78,779,539, with a net impact of $30,832,062 in savings. This number only reflects the budgetary impact of the proposed reorganization. The remaining savings will be captured in Fiscal Year 2027.
