Transportation

In April 2024, the Jefferson County Board of Education approved a new transportation plan for the 2024-25 school year to help more students arrive on time.

Most magnet school students will no longer be eligible for JCPS transportation.

With a dramatic shortage of bus drivers and more routes than drivers, the board voted to cut JCPS transportation for students* who:

—Attend full magnet schools with the exception of Central and Western High Schools

—Attend magnet programs within a school

—Attend traditional schools

—Attend non-resides Academies of Louisville programs

That means students at several JCPS schools will no longer have access to bus transportation from JCPS.

Example

Transportation will be provided if your child attends Atherton High School, is enrolled in the IB Magnet Program, and lives in the Atherton High School Zone.

Transportation will NOT be provided if your child attends Atherton High School, is enrolled in the IB Magnet Program, and does NOT live in the Atherton High School Zone.

Exceptions may apply for students who are eligible to receive McKinney Vento Homeless Assistant Act services, foster children, and Exceptional Child Education (ECE) students who have Special Needs Transportation (SNT) in their Individual Education Program (IEP).
