The student sitting beside you may be facing something you know nothing about. A kind word, an invitation to sit together, or simply choosing not to laugh at someone else’s expense can matter more than you realize.
To our students: Your words have power. Use them to build people up, not tear them down. You do not have to be someone’s best friend to treat them with dignity, kindness, and respect.
To our families: Raise the child you want others to encounter in the world. Teach them to treat others the way they would want to be treated. Teach them that kindness is not weakness, that differences are not reasons for cruelty, and that standing silently while someone else is mistreated is a choice, too.
Middle school is hard enough. Let’s not make it harder for one another.

Today, our Hispanic students had the opportunity to recognize the staff members who make them feel welcomed, valued, and that they truly belong at Olmsted South.
Students wrote personal notes and presented a small token of appreciation to those staff members who have made a difference in their lives. ❤️
Students also shared a special moment with our Executive Principal, who is from Panama. Together, they celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month by recognizing the diverse cultures represented at OAS and proudly taking pictures with their country flags. 🇵🇦🇲🇽🇨🇺🇬🇹🇭🇳🇸🇻🇻🇪🇨🇴🇩🇴🇵🇷
It was such a special moment to see our students celebrate where they come from alongside our Executive Principal while recognizing the people who help make OAS feel like home.

As they learned about Kaya’s story and the historical and cultural context surrounding it, students extended their learning through creative projects, including bracelet making and model tipi construction.
