Welcome to a New School Year at Olmsted Academy South!
Dear Olmsted Academy South Families,
I hope you and your family are enjoying a wonderful summer! My name is Dr. Johana Gomez, and I am honored to introduce myself as the new principal of Olmsted Academy South.
It is a privilege to join a school community with such a strong tradition of excellence, and I am excited to partner with you as we begin a new school year. I chose a career in education because I know firsthand the difference a school and a caring teacher can make in a child’s life. As a child, school was my safe place, and one teacher’s belief in me changed the course of my life. That experience continues to inspire me and reminds me that every student deserves to be seen, supported, challenged, and encouraged to reach their fullest potential.
At Olmsted Academy South, my commitment is simple: to ensure every student learns in a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment where they can grow academically, socially, and emotionally. I believe that every child has unique strengths and unlimited potential, and it is our responsibility to help them discover both. I also believe the strongest schools are built through meaningful partnerships between families, students, staff, and the community. Together, we can accomplish extraordinary things for our children.
You will often hear me say:
Every Student. Every Day. Every Interaction Matters.
This is more than a motto; it is the commitment I make to every student and every family. Every interaction is an opportunity to build trust, encourage growth, and make a positive difference.
Over the next few weeks, you will receive additional information about important back-to-school dates, schedules, and opportunities to connect with our staff. I encourage you to stay engaged, ask questions, and partner with us throughout the school year. Your involvement is one of the greatest factors in your child’s success, and I value the trust you place in us each day.
I look forward to meeting many of you during our back-to-school events. Please don’t hesitate to introduce yourself. I truly value getting to know the families who make Olmsted Academy South such a special community. My door is always open, and I welcome your ideas, questions, and partnership as we work together to provide the very best educational experience for every student.
Thank you for welcoming me into the Olmsted Academy South family. I am excited for all that we will accomplish together and look forward to an incredible school year.
Enjoy the rest of your summer, and I can’t wait to welcome our students back to school!
With appreciation,
Dr. Johana Gomez

Dear Parents and Guardians,
KSA testing at Olmsted Academy South starts tomorrow. It is critical that all students follow the school’s state testing cell phone rules. To ensure a secure and distraction-free testing environment, students must leave their cell phones at home or store them in their lockers before testing begins.
Phones are not permitted in the classroom under any circumstances during KSA testing. If a phone is seen, heard, or discovered during testing, it will be confiscated and a parent or guardian will be required to come to the school to retrieve it. In addition, the student will receive a referral and be assigned to ISAP for the remainder of the day after testing.
We have made this announcement to students all week and will continue to make the announcement through testing. We strongly encourage you to speak with your student individually about this policy so they fully understand the expectations.
These expectations are in place due to the serious implications cell phone use can have on state testing integrity, and we appreciate your support in reinforcing this expectation with your child.

Dear Families,
Our Kentucky Summative Assessment (KSA) testing will begin on May 4, and we want all students prepared to perform at their best. This assessment is an important measure of student learning and helps guide future instruction. Your support at home plays a key role in helping students stay focused, confident, and ready throughout the testing window.
Please help your student by:
- Ensuring they get a full night of sleep before testing days
- Providing a healthy breakfast each morning
- Making sure they arrive at school on time each day
- Encouraging a positive attitude and consistent effort
- No personal technology is allowed — all cell phones must be left at home, secured in locked pouches, or stored in lockers; devices cannot be in the testing environment at any time per state law
Thank you for your continued support.
