Fifth graders work in collaborative groups and explore specific events, people, locations, concepts etc.. in history. Hexagonal thinking challenges students to think critically about the connections between key terms and concepts.

We appreciate your understanding as our schools and buildings are closed today while the city has implemented a necessary shelter-in-place due to last night’s tragic plane crash.

Today, our teams are checking the air and water quality at all of our schools and buildings. We are doing these checks out of an abundance of caution, as the safety of our students and staff is our top priority.

We know situations like what happened last night impact our students in different ways. Every JCPS school has a mental health team that is available to talk with students about how they are feeling. If your child would like support when we return to class, please reach out to their school.

This is a reminder that the food pantry is open today until 3:30 at the school. If you need food assistance, you can come to the school for a food box. NO APPOINTMENT IS NECCESSARY. The food pantry hours are Monday-Friday from 7:30am-3:30pm. If these hours do not work please contact the school to make arrangements.

Just a few housekeeping reminders for today/tomorrow:

Today is the last day to order your spirit wear things online! You can go to 323ink.com, find our school store, and put your orders in until midnight tonight.

Tomorrow is the last day to buy wristbands for the Fall Festival. You can send in the money with your child or buy them online using the QR code on the flyer that went home.

Also Tomorrow is Western Day! If you would like participate, they may wear boots and/or cowboy hats to give drugs the BOOT!

This is a reminder that Tuesday 10/28 will be the last day to purchase wristbands for our Fall Festival on 10/30. Wristbands will get you 2 go arounds at the Trunk or Treat, Haunted House, and the games. Wristbands will NOT be sold at the door, so if you plan to attend it is important you purchase wristbands for all children that will be in attendance with you.

Each year Layne Elementary honors our veterans and active duty military family members through a Veterans Day celebration. This year we want to continue our Veterans' Day celebration tradition and we need your help to celebrate our veterans and active duty military of the Layne family. If you would like to recognize a veteran or active duty military from your family, please complete this form as thoroughly as possible. Please include(upload) any photos of your veteran or active duty military where indicated. We will celebrate our veterans on Tuesday, November 11th with light refreshments followed by an assembly.
