Celebrating Those Who Make a Difference
Our Multilingual Learners have started a new tradition this year; each month they vote for the staff member who truly uplifts them, supports them, and makes Doss feel like a place where they belong. For the month of October, our ML students selected Miss Beitia as the Multilingual Learner Advocate of the Month!
What makes this recognition even more meaningful is that 25 other staff members were also nominated. That speaks volumes about the love, dedication, and positive impact so many of our educators and staff bring to our students every single day.
Congratulations, Miss Beitia! And thank you to every staff member who continues to pour encouragement, patience, and belief into our students’ journeys. You are making a difference.

Huge shoutout to our TEC Academy principal and teachers who spent their Saturday cutting, painting, decorating, and getting everything ready for a secret student celebration!
Their dedication makes moments like this possible and we can’t wait for our Dragons to see what’s coming.

Doss High School was honored to be represented at the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) Freedom Fund Banquet. Assistant Principals Ms. Johana Gomez and Mr. Shawn Claxton attended as invited guests of Chief Marshall and Faith Stroud with the JCPS Diversity, Equity, and Poverty Division.
The event featured Superintendent Dr. Brian Yearwood as a keynote speaker, underscoring JCPS’s continued commitment to equity, access, and opportunity for all students.

They also got to quickly explore the UofL campus and check out some of its highlights — an inspiring day full of opportunities and new experiences!
Also, congratulations to Francoise! She received a $50 gift card because she accepted a job orientation!
Thank you to our counselors, Mr. Thompson and Ms. Balentine for chaperoning!

All JCPS schools and buildings will open and operate as normal on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025. Our crews tested the water and air quality at all of our schools and buildings today and everything came back normal. Louisville Metro Government officials have also informed us that it is safe to reopen schools. Our thoughts remain with all those affected by Tuesday’s tragic plane crash.
Dear JCPS families,
We appreciate your understanding as our schools and buildings are closed today while the city has implemented a necessary shelter-in-place due to last night’s tragic plane crash.
Today, our teams are checking the air and water quality at all of our schools and buildings. We are doing these checks out of an abundance of caution, as the safety of our students and staff is our top priority.
If you and your family need food assistance today, please reach out to Dare to Care Food Bank:
Website: DaretoCare.org
Phone: (502) 966-3821
We know situations like what happened last night impact our students in different ways. Every JCPS school has a mental health team that is available to talk with students about how they are feeling. If your child would like support when we return to class, please reach out to their school.
As a reminder, we provide important updates via text, email, JCPS social media platforms, the JCPS app, our website, and local media.
Thank you for your continued support of our students and staff.
