Announcement

JCBE Chair Corrie Shull and Vice Chair James Craig shared the following release:

Louisville, KY (December 5, 2025) — The Chair and Vice Chair of the Jefferson County Board of Education (JCBE) today announced that they will formally move to pause consideration of the recent school closure, consolidation, and realignment recommendations proposed by Superintendent Dr. Yearwood. This decision follows three community input sessions and reflects the Board's commitment to due diligence and transparency.

“We have heard the voices of our community; the concern, apprehension, and passionate engagement regarding the proposed changes to our JCPS schools,” stated JCBE Chairman Dr. Corrie Shull. “Your feedback, delivered through community forums, emails, and phone calls, has been heard loud and clear. We recognize that our schools are the heart of our communities, and any change must be approached with the utmost care, transparency, and a focus on the best interests of our students.”

Board leadership emphasized that the motion to pause, which will be introduced at the December 9 Board meeting, is not a vote against the need for necessary changes, but rather a step to ensure the process is as thorough as possible.

The Board is requesting that Dr. Yearwood and his team dedicate additional time and resources to provide a more thorough and detailed justification for the recommendation including specific academic, fiscal, and logistical benefits for each proposed change.

The Board encourages parents, guardians, educators, and residents to continue bringing their feedback and insights during this pause.

“Your passion is essential, and your perspective is invaluable to this deliberative process,” said Shull. “We are committed to an open, honest, and thoughtful review, and we look forward to working with the Superintendent’s team and the entire community to reach a decision that secures a bright future for all our children.”

The forums occurred on Monday night at Kammerer Middle, Wednesday night at Academy @ Shawnee and Thursday night at Stewart Auditorium.
