Dr. Lynn Reynolds

Dr. Lynn Reynolds, a lifelong educator with 35 years of experience, has been named the new special assistant to the superintendent of Jefferson County Public Schools. She will begin her new role Sept. 8.

“I am deeply honored to serve as special assistant to the superintendent,” Reynolds said. “My purpose has always been grounded in changing outcomes for children. Inspired by my mother’s determination and brilliance, I carry with me her vision of endurance, strength and possibility. As James Baldwin reminds us, ‘Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it’s faced.’ This new role allows me to continue facing challenges head-on to ensure every child in JCPS has the resources, opportunities and support they need to succeed.”

Reynolds currently serves as executive director of Library Media Services, where she has led strategies and support for more than 150 K–12 school library programs. Under her leadership, JCPS librarians have been equipped with tools, professional learning and resources to transform libraries into hubs of literacy, inquiry, access and digital skills. Her efforts have helped ensure libraries remain central to student success in the digital age.

“Dr. Reynolds brings an exceptional combination of vision, strategy and heart to this role,” Superintendent Dr. Brian Yearwood said. “Her leadership has already reshaped the way JCPS approaches literacy and access, and I know she will continue to build strong connections across our schools, families and community partners.”

Reynolds earned her doctorate in educational leadership in 2015 and completed the Librarian Leadership in a Digital Age program at Harvard University. Throughout her career, she has served as a classroom teacher, administrator and library media specialist. These experiences give her a holistic perspective on the needs of both students and educators.

Her "why" is deeply personal. The determination and brilliance of her mother, who moved through life with endurance despite many hardships, planted a seed that stirred in Reynolds a hunger for something different, something good and something right. Her first "why" is to do and be all she was purposed to be in her mother’s eyes. Her other "why" is children. She believes deeply that changing outcomes for children is her calling and purpose in education.

Born and raised in Lebanon, Tennessee, Reynolds credits her upbringing as a twin with shaping her sense of teamwork and leadership from an early age.

Outside of her professional work, Reynolds enjoys crafting, reading, event planning and mentoring young women. She is known for her love of design and decorating, her passion for empowering others, and her deep commitment to family and community.

“Rooted in my why, guided by God’s purpose and inspired by my mother’s vision, I will serve JCPS with a heart committed to changing outcomes for generations to come,” Reynolds said.
