Professional Learning Communities

Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) are teams of teachers that meet on a regular basis, for the purposes of learning, joint lesson planning, and problem solving. These teams operate with a commitment to the norms of continuous improvement and experimentation and engage their members in improving their daily work to advance the achievement of school district and school goals for student learning. The benefits of PLCs to educators and students include reduced isolation of teachers, better informed and committed teachers, and academic gains for students.  CES's PLCs include:

Elementary STC provides a forum for JCPS elementary lab teachers and STCs to share their experiences and to enhance their educational technology skills to assist our students in becoming successful 21st Century Learners. For more information contact Carolyn McCoy.

JCPS Teachers On Twitter allows for professional collaboration and idea exchange among JCPS Teachers and schools. Click here to build your Personal Learning Network (PLN) with JCPS teachers. For more information contact Jeremy Renner.

SMART Ed User Group is a cohort of like minded educators who see the value in using and enjoy using SMART products during classroom instruction. Our primary goal is to improve student achievement in the areas of critical thinking and problem solving, communication, collaboration, and creativity and innovation. School Technology Coordinators attend bi-monthly two-hour informational meetings.  The coordinators receive up to date technical or instructional information during the first hour and attend a breakout session during the second hour.  For more information contact Steve Brown.
