Michele Eckels has worked in education for more than 30 years; 18 of those years have been in Jefferson County. She has been a classroom teacher, coach, school resource teacher, intake counselor, and assistant principal. She has spent ten years in the alternative school setting working with “at promise” youth.
Ms. Eckels has masters degrees in School Counseling (K-12) and Health Education as well as her Educational Leadership degree (K-12). She has served as a member on the district committee for The Louisville Dropout Summit, the district's Crisis Assistance Team as well as presenting at national conferences on Alternatives to Expulsion, Suspension, & Dropping Out of School. Other professional memberships include: Jefferson County Association of School Administrators, Jefferson County Assistant Principals Association, and Women in School Administration organization, the American Counseling Association, and the Kentucky Counseling Association.
She is the past president of the Women in School Administration Association. Ms. Eckels was named Kentucky PTA Outstanding Educator, received a JCPS Outstanding Volunteer Service Award, and was given a Target Teacher Scholarship Award.
