Men's golf
The future of Eastern High School boy's varsity golf program
is promising. The fall season fielded 22 players which
included one senior, five juniors, three sophomores, and eleven
freshman. Last season the team finished with a record 11 wins,
4 loses, and five successful tournament finishes. The golf program
plans to increase its tournament play next season to eight entries
with the help of a strong booster club. Early next season, the
booster club plans to host both varsity and junior varsity tournaments
to raise money for this growing program.
General Information:
Golf matches are played on weekdays (Monday through Thursday)
from early August to late September. The matches are prescheduled
with mostly local schools and have tee times from 3:15 to 4:15.
Golf matches are typically between two teams of six players
each. The lowest four scores from each team after nine holes
of play are then added to give an overall team score. The lowest
team score wins the match.
Golf tournaments are played on weekends (Saturday usually)
throughout the season. A tournament’s size will vary but
generally fifteen to twenty teams are entered to play. Each
team will bring five players, (not six as in matches) with the
lowest four scores counting towards the overall team score.
The lowest overall team score after eighteen holes of play wins
the tournament.
Golf practice typically consists of practicing short game technique
and swing mechanics followed by nine holes of play. Each golfer
is required to keep his own score, keeping track of “fairways
hit,” “greens in regulation,” and “number
of puts.” These stats are useful in diagnosing areas needing
improvement. Also, practice scores are used to determine a players
spot on a match or tournament roster. The lowest average scores
play in varsity matches.
Women's golf

Eastern’s Girls Golf provides an opportunity for girls, grades 9-12, to learn to play golf, build lasting friendships and experience competition in a fun, supportive environment, preparing them for a lifetime of enjoyment with the game. Girls are learning values inherent to the game of golf, such as practice, respect, perseverance, and honesty, preparing them to meet challenges of today’s world with confidence.
Quality Instruction
Girls Golf provides a solid foundation for girls who want to play for fun with friends and family, to compete at the high school, college, and local, state, and national levels. Eastern’s program offers an inexpensive, progressive learning system on the course, starting from the green and moving back to the tee. Our program offers year round activities, meeting monthly during the off season and weekly during the summer and fall golf season providing the consistency necessary for a successful learning experience.
“My daughter has participated in the Girls Golf program for two years. The golf skills that she's learned have helped her take her game to another level. The social interaction she’s had with both the younger and the older girls has given her poise beyond her years.” Parent of a girls Golf participant.
Coach Butler says, “The game of golf teaches life skills such as time management, dedication and perseverance. One of our former members is a prime example of how participating in this program has taught her all of the aforementioned. She has gone on to college on a golf scholarship, recently graduating with an accounting degree, and continues to return as a volunteer. She is a wonderful mentor and role model to our current members.”
YOU CAN GET ONE IF YOU CAN BREAK 100. Over 250 women’s golf scholarships went unused last year. There just aren’t enough girls applying for them. “It’s amazing that girls aren't seeking these scholarships. Instead they choose not to play golf and focus their summer and fall off season on sports where the competition for limited scholarships is intense.”
Golf season begins July 15 and runs through the end of October.
