What
do companies like UPS, LG&E, KY Farm Bureau, Caritas, Hershaw
Trane, InnerSpace and Tricon have in common? Along with 32 other
companies here in the Louisville area, they are “growing
their own” IT workers. They have chosen to participate in
the Eastern High School IT Internship program. It is a valuable
way to both support the technology education of our community
youth and bring productive IT workers into your organization.
Thanks to an extraordinary program initiated by the Jefferson
County Schools, Kizan, The Louisville Community Initiative and
Greater Louisville, Inc.,
Eastern High School has been turning out talented IT workers
with industry required skills. Eastern is a proud member of
CompTIA, and this internship program has been recognized by
their national IT Jobs + program as one of the top three in
the nation.
What help can you derive from your IT Interns? They can help
with:
- Help desk and telephone support positions
- Installing new computers and network support
- Installing software
- Hardware repair and troubleshooting on PC’s
- Website maintenance
- ArcView GIS data entry
- Accounting Clerk duties
They have a proven record of accomplishment. In the last three
summers over 80 students have served 39 companies’ IT
departments. This summer we hope to provide over 100. How have
we managed to produce so many talented IT workers?
Eastern draws students from all over the county who are interested
in Information Technology. It was the only JCPS school with
a Microsoft AATP program. It is now a certified CompTIA Jobs+
training program, and a certified VUE Certification Testing
program. It is the only school with ten different computer majors for
students to study. Many schools have isolated programs that
teach a dozen or two talented students, but ONLY Eastern REQUIRES
two years of introductory courses that gives ALL of their students
a background strong enough to take those eight majors.
