The Eagles’ VARSITY and JUNIOR VARSITY teams play hard and have fun every season. Led by Captains Emerald Kern, Lisa Settle and Emily Taylor the Varsity had experience on their side this year as they only lost one player at graduation last year. The JV team, with captians Leah Hotchkiss and Kasey Nichols, had a year of learning and coming together. Last year Eastern didn’t field a Junior Varsity level team; having this level back in the program will only strengthen our players for next year’s season.
Besides a strenuous regular season of games the girls also competed in the Gateway Tournament in St. Louis, The Sacred Heart Apple Tournament and the South Oldham Invitational Tournament. The teams were instructed by head coach, Monnie Elzy-Matthis, and assistant, Lindsay Jones. Coach Elzy-Matthis retired from the EHS team after this year and the entire club was sad to see her go. She built our program immensely and has positioned us well for incoming head coach and Eastern alumni, Carrie Jackson, and assistant, Miranda Curry, to take the teams to new levels of competition and success in the future! The entire program is enthusiastic about the next chapter in EHS Field Hockey.
It is never too late to get into this fun and rewarding sport, and it is not too soon to start preparing for next season……it’s going to be great!
