School Profile

Cochrane Elementary School is “a great place to learn and grow!” Nestled in the quiet suburban neighborhood of Jeffersontown, east of the city, Cochrane offers a comprehensive academic program to meet the learning needs and styles of every student. Technology is integrated throughout the curriculum. Students can fine-tune their reading, writing, and math skills in the school’s computer lab and in the electronic research center. One of Cochrane’s unique features is its Guidance Program that gives every student a chance to meet with the school counselor regularly throughout the school year. Learning starts early at Cochrane. The school houses Early Childhood programs (Head Start and Preschool classes for three- and four-year-old children) and a before- and after-school childcare program. Students also can participate in after-school activities like basketball and cheerleading.

Parents are a big part of Cochrane’s success. In addition to checking homework assignments, Cochrane parents are active in the school’s PTA, on the SBDM council, and they participate in school events like monthly family nights. Cochrane is a Health Promotions School of Excellence with several nutrition and fitness programs offered by the school’s Helping Hands Family Resource Center.
