Welcome to Bowen Elementary School's
Family Resource Center!

Mary Ballard, Coordinator

Family Resource Centers were started in Kentucky schools as a part of KERA (the Kentucky Education Reform Act), and we have been at Bowen since 1995. Our primary mission is to help students succeed in school and to reduce barriers to learning by providing support to students and their families.

Some of our projects and activities during the 2011-12 school year will include:

  • Coordination of School Safety Patrol;
  • Coordination of Every One Reads - a district-wide tutoring/mentoring program;
  • Health care referrals to help students meet school health requirements;
  • Assistance with after-school programs to provide enriching activities for students during non-school hours;
  • School-based counseling/therapy through Seven Counties Services
  • Parent Workshops (in collaboration with other area Family Resource Centers) dealing with issues of common concern to parents, such as discipline and help with schoolwork;
  • Assemblies to provide enrichment for students during school hours;
  • Family Fun Night programs, in collaboration with the Bowen PTA;
  • Assistance in dealing with attendance problems;
  • Assistance in locating appropriate child care for school-age or pre-school children;
  • Most importantly, we are here to assist students and families on any issues that might arise during the year.
