About Our School
Rutherford Elementary provides a literature-based curriculum nurtured by team-teaching and cooperative learning. Students use the latest in technology to improve their reading and writing skills. Mathematics and science labs give students opportunities to learn complex concepts through hands-on practice. Rutherford offers the Visual Arts Magnet Program for Clusters 1, 2, and 3. Rutherford recently received the unique distinction of having Kentucky’s best Family Resource Center. The Center strives to remove obstacles to learning so that students and families can focus on the child’s academic success. Rutherford offers Early Childhood Jump Start programs for four-year-olds, before- and after-school child-care services, and Extended School Services. Rutherford is a School-Based Decision Making School, and a participant in the Comprehensive School Health Education Project. Academic Team, STLP, and Chess Club are also offered at Rutherford.
Visual Arts Magnet Program
Would your child enjoy innovative and challenging Visual Arts opportunities? Do you want your child to excel academically in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies? Rutherford Elementary offers a Visual Arts Magnet Program that is integrated with mathematics, science, social studies, reading, and writing. Students are given the opportunity to participate in an enhanced learning environment where the Visual Arts Program will utilize community and global connections and advanced techniques in drawing, painting, sculpting and pottery. Renowned, local artists partner with Rutherford to offer your child unique educational experiences that will enable him/her to be lifelong learners and productive members of society.
Celebration of Differences
Rutherford is a true melting pot of the world's cultures. Our students don't just attend classes with children from around the world but we all participate and celebrate in this diversity. All students are included and there is a daily respect and appreciation throughout our population of students and staff for all cultures. Everyday is a learning experience that brings with it new ideas and new understandings that teach students to accept themselves and others for who they are. A large portion of our cultural diversity comes from the continent of Asia. Every year, Rutherford has a school-wide celebration of the Asian New Year. It is always great fun! Students of all races, ethnicities, backgrounds, and cultural differences participate and learn many traditions and aspects of Asian culture. Celebrations and activities for African American, Hispanic, and other cultures can be found throughout the year as well.
