Gutermuth Family Resource Center

Dr. Wright

What is the FRC?

In 1990, with education reform the state legislature determined that students and families needed extra support. It was determined that family resource centers should be established in elementary schools and have six core components to assist families.

These core components are: Families in Training, Health Services, Preschool Child Care, After School Child Care, Training for Child Care Providers, and Parent and Child Education. Additionally, each center conducts a needs assessment to determine other areas of relevance.

At Gutermuth, we have determined that families wanted recreational opportunities along with other various social services. The Jefferson County Public School System developed specific outcome measures relevant to FRCs. These outcomes measures are: working to improve attendance, community collaboration, reduce suspensions and improve behavior, and parental involvement.
