Holidays Around the World: 2007-2008 Calendar

All reasonable attempts were made to assure the accuracy of the information available in this calendar. Please notify the JCPS Diversity/Multicultural Education Office at catherine.collesano@jefferson.kyschools.us if you believe that any of the dates or holidays are inaccurate. Important Notes:
1. The dates of some religious and cultural holidays are determined by the lunar calendar or by other natural occurances and cannot be announced until the event nears.
2. There are cultural communities in the United States that do not honor certain holidays of their ethnic homelands because of political or religious differences with the governments of those nations.
3. There are many nations that recognize religious observances as national holidays, but not all of the ethnic and religious minorities in those nations will take part in the holiday celebrations. In many countries, ethnic and religious minorities are given the right to abstain from work and school for their own holidays. However, there are also many nations that do not allow their religious and ethnic minorities to express their own traditions.
4. Please contact our office at catherine.collesano@jefferson.kyschools.us if your ethnic community or religious faith is not represented in this list. Once we have varified the holidays we will add them to the list.
