Calendar of Events

Every Sunday in November - The Presley Tyler Visitors Center at Blackacre State Nature Preserve and Historic Homestead is open to the public every Sunday from 1-5 pm. Visitors can tour the 1844 farmhouse and around the Historic Homestead. The tour includes the farmhouse built in 1844, and circa-1790's barn, springhouse, and weaving shed. There is no charge for the tour, but donations are appreciated. No RSVP is necessary.

November 9, 2009 - 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall in Germany.

November 11 - Veterans Day (USA); Remembrance Day (Canada, UK)

November 12 at 7 pm - "Genocide & Crimes Against Humanity: U.S. Intervention in Darfur" at the Galt House. This lecture is part of the Global Issues Forum Special Series on Human Rights by the World Affairs Council of Kentucky & Southern Indiana. The reception will begin at 5:30 in the Brown Room. Reservations are required for the reception. Both the reception and the lecture are open to the general public. November 16-20 - International Education Week - This event is sponsored by the U.S. Departments of State and Education and is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. All schools and community organizations are encouraged to participate. More information can be found at the IEW Web site.

November 21 at 1 pm - Spanish Literary Salon at the Iroquois Library, 601 West Woodlawn Ave. - Participants will read and discuss a few excerpts from the book "The Open Veins of Latin America: Five Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent," by Uruguayan author Eduardo Galeano. Stephen Bartlett will lead the discussion. For more information, please call (502) 574-1720.

November 25-28 - Hajj (Islam; annual pilgrimage to Mecca)

November 26 - Thanksgiving (U.S.)

November 27 - Eid ul-Adha (Islam)

December 12-19 - Hanukkah (Judaism)

December 25 - Christmas (western churches and local-area Eastern Orthodox Christian Churches)
