Starfish Program
Sponsored by Louisville Metro Government and Jefferson County Public Schools
The City of Louisville funds swimming lessons for all second-grade students who attend JCPS. Dr. Berman earmarks funds to provide transportation to and from area pools. JCPS along with the YMCA, Metro Parks, the University of Louisville, and All About Kids have worked together to implement an instruction program in swimming that includes a water-safety curriculum and four 45-minute swimming lessons for each child.
Many of the students who participate in the swimming instruction program do not have swimsuits, bathing caps, towels, and other necessary supplies. Over the years, we have been able to provide these items through generous donations from local companies and individuals.
Monetary support and new swimsuit donations still can be made to the Jefferson County Public Education Foundation in care of Linda Johnson, Jaeger Education Center, 502 Wood Road, Louisville, KY 40222. For more information, you may call Linda Johnson at 485-6636 or e-mail her at linda.johnson@jefferson.kyschools.us.
We will be proud to publicize your donation on our Web site and on all of our printed materials to cite you as a sponsor of this program.
