Planned Giving

You can leave a legacy to the Jefferson County Public School (JCPS) District through a planned gift to the Jefferson County Public Education Foundation. Your gift can be designated for technology, scholarships, school supplies, clothing, enrichment programs, etc.

The foundation is working with the Kentucky Planned Giving Council to promote LEAVE A LEGACY. LEAVE A LEGACY is a community collaboration to encourage people to make gifts from their estates to nonprofit organizations about which they care deeply.

These are the top ten things you can do today to leave a legacy to JCPS:

1. Prepare a will. Only 50 percent of individuals who pass away in the metropolitan Louisville area have a will. Without it, you lose control of the possessions you've worked a lifetime to acquire.

2. Leave a gift of any amount to JCPS. Fewer than six percent of all wills settled contain a charitable provision. Imagine the positive impact on our community if everyone made even a modest contribution.

3. Leave a specific dollar amount or percentage of the assets in your will to JCPS in care of the Jefferson County Public Education Foundation. The provision can be part of a new will or can be added to your existing will by codicil.

4. Consider using personal assets for your charitable gift. These can include, but are not limited to, stocks, bonds, CDs, real estate, vehicles, art, and jewelry. Such gifts even may provide tax savings.

5. Name the Jefferson County Public Education Foundation as the beneficiary of your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) or pension.

6. Purchase a new life insurance policy that names the Jefferson County Public Education Foundation as the beneficiary.

7. Name the Jefferson County Public Education Foundation as the beneficiary of an existing life insurance policy.

8. Honor a deceased loved one by designating memorial gifts to the Jefferson County Public Education Foundation.

9. Encourage family members and friends to leave gifts to JCPS in their wills.

10. Ask your professional advisors to include charitable giving as part of their counsel to other clients.
