Jefferson County Public Schools Early Childhood Program has paved the pathway for a brighter future for more than 20 million children. It has helped them build confidence and skills they need to succeed in school. It has also assisted low income families create new beginnings. Jefferson County Public Schools Early Childhood Program is among the most energetic and effective in the state of Kentucky. The vision for Kentucky's young children and their families is that "all young children are healthy and safe, possess the foundation that will enable school and personal success, and live in strong families that are supported and strengthened within their communities." As a result of Kentucky's strong commitment to families, Jefferson County Public Schools Early Childhood Program has been instrumental in providing comprehensive services to infants, toddlers, fathers and pregnant women. Jefferson County presently has 70 three-year-old classes, 109 Pre-Kindergarten classes, 94 Head Start classes, 18 Early Head Start classes, and 12 Tuition-Based classes. We feel that it is important parents feel the safety and trust of leaving their children in our care to educate them, knowing that they will be safe and happy. In today's economic decline, it is vital that the families we serve have resources to assist them in transitioning from Welfare to Work and have educational and skill-building opportunities available to them. For these reasons, Jefferson County Public Schools Head Start/Early Head Start Department focuses on the entire family. There are father initiatives that provide pertinent employment and health information for the men of the family to be well informed. We also provide an assortment of family based activities that involves entire family units, community sponsors and volunteers. We take pride in knowing that the work we do is not in vain and that we touch the future through the endeavors of the dedicated staff in the Jefferson County Public Schools Early Childhood Department. |
