The Cycle III window is now open for internships that began (Orientation meeting) during the month of August. These internships should conclude before Spring Break.

The Kentucky Teacher Internship Program (KTIP) is a one year internship program required* of all new teachers and out-of-state teachers with less than two years of successful teaching experience who are seeking initial certification in Kentucky. This one year internship is credited to the intern for experience and retirement, and during the internship the intern is provided full benefits. All internships must officially begin no later than October 15th and continue until the end of the school-year.

During the internship, the intern is supported by a committee comprised of the Principal, a Resource Teacher, and a Teacher Educator (a representative assigned by the Regional KTIP office located at the University of Louisville). Throughout the year, the committee members observe the intern, provide support, and make suggestions for the purpose of professional growth. Upon successful completion of the internship, the intern earns a full professional teaching certificate.

KTIP Closing Procedures

Interns	Resource Teachers	Principals
Finalize plans for the video tape option (see link for form below). Complete in-class and out-of-class hours with the Resource Teacher. Sign-off on the Resource Teacher Timesheet. Sign-off at the final committee meeting. E-pay after the conclusion of the final committee meeting. This facilitates processing of your Professional Teaching Certificate!	Complete a total of 20 in-class and 40 out-of-class hours with your intern(s) for the year and submit your timesheet(s) by April 15th. If your intern started late in the fall, you may request an extension by emailing aimee.webb@jefferson.kyschools.us Be sure to include the start and end times in the description for all out-of-class activities.	Please have all committee members electronically sign-off at the final committee meeting. This facilitates the certification process for successful interns. If you have an intern in jeopardy of failing KTIP, contact Aimee Webb immediately. Sign-off on the Resource Teacher’s timesheet within one week of the conclusion of the final committee meeting.
