 My company would like to host a field trip, volunteer as a guest speaker, serve as a mock interview volunteer, or hire a student for a internship, but who do I contact?
Companies and organizations interested in hosting/hiring students should contact the JCPS School-to-Career office (502.485.3321).

 What do you mean by valued-added experiences?
Value-added is a term used to define those experiences or opportunities (internship, co-op, field trip, guest speaker, etc.) that are directly related or relevant to the course of study that at student is pursuing. For example, students enrolled in a healthcare career pathway program participate in a job shadow experience with a physician.

 Do students under 18 years old need work permits?
No, individuals under the age of 18 years old no longer are required to possess work permits. However, be sure to check federal and state child labor laws to ensure that your company is meeting compliance and safety issues.

 What should I pay an intern or student worker?
The goal of an internship or co-op is to develop the skill set of the student and have them gain some real world experience. Therefore, starting pay can be no lower than minimum wage, but increase to an amount that a company would normally pay for an entry-level position.

How do I get involved in the UPS/STW co-op program?
Procedure
JCPS students are required to attend a UPS/STW information session during their junior year. In this session the UPS recruiter presents all parts of the program - qualifications, job descriptions, expectations, commitments, etc. At this time any student that feels they meet the qualifications and is willing to abide by all rules & regulations discussed may complete an interest card provided by UPS. Once confirming qualifications, any student that has a 2.5 GPA, good attendance, 17 years of age, and recommended by their school, receives an interview with UPS. UPS will offer an interview to qualified students and select those they feel best exemplify the UPS/STW co-op program. Once the selection is made, students are notified through their school counselors by the end of their junior year. UPS contacts them individually during the summer to set up a start date.
• What are my responsibilities once I have been accepted into the UPS/STW program?
Responsibilities
As a UPS/STW co-op student you will be wearing 3 hats - one as a high school student, one as a UPS employee, and one as a JCC college freshman. As a high school students you are to attend school on a regular basis completing all requirements for graduation. As a UPS employee you need to attend work each day, communicate with your mentors/supervisors, and do your job to the best of your ability. As a JCC College student, you need to attend your class and do your work to maintain good grades in your post-secondary education. The following are students expectations:
  1. Attend school/work each scheduled day.
  2. Follow guidelines/specifications learned during UPS orientation.
  3. Communicate with supervisors/mentors on a daily basis.
  4. Complete all high school paperwork required.
  5. Attend JCC college classes each class period and complete assignments.
  6. Abide by all guidelines on the JCC Value-Added Commitment signed by you and your parents.
