Professional Development and Continuing Education

Professional Development opportunities to extend an educator's knowledge base on gifted and talented educational issues are offered through a variety of professional organizations at the local, state, and national levels. These include the Kentucky Association for Gifted Education (KAGE), the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC), the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) as well as professional development sponsored by District. The conferences, workshops, and seminars that are held throughout the year update educators on the latest methodologies, strategies, and curriculum development utilized to enhance student achievement of the gifted and talented child. Thought participation in these opportunities educators can address the needs and interests of the gifted/talented student.

In addition, continuing education opportunities for the Commonwealth's gifted and talented endorsement can be obtained by participating in educational programs offered by Western Kentucky University, the University of Louisville, and Bellarmine University. Links have been provided to both Dr. Julia Roberts, Western Kentucky University, Dr. Gina Schack, University of Louisville, and Dr. Claire Hughes, Bellarmine University (502-452-8285) to assist educators in pursuing this endorsement as required by the Kentucky Administrative Regulation 704 KAR 3:285.
