GSSP
Gifted/Talented Student Services Plan
As defined in 704 KAR 3:285, Kentucky's gifted and talented students include those who are identified as possessing demonstrated or potential ability to perform at an exceptionally high level in general intellectual aptitude, specific academic aptitude, creativity, leadership skills, or in the visual or performing arts. As a result of this Administrative Regulation, all Kentucky school districts are required to implement policies and procedures which provide for the identification and screening of student strengths and providing programming that meets those strengths. In Jefferson County this is done through our Advance Program. The implementation of the Gifted/Talented Student Services Plan (GSSP) will provide an educational plan that matches a formally identified gifted student's interests, needs, and abilities to differentiated service options and serves as the communication vehicle between the parent and the school.
Schools and districts shall establish a Gifted/Talented student placement committee. The committee members can include a gifted education coordinator or a gifted education teacher and representatives from classroom teachers, administrators, counselors, special education teachers and other appropriate personnel. This committee will determine which service options, service levels, and service strategies and methodologies will be needed for the student and included in each identified student's Gifted/Talented Student Services Plan. Schools shall ensure and send a report to a parent or guardian outlining the progress each Advance Program student has made utilizing the service options, service levels, and service strategies/methodologies for each semester. These reports will be filed in the student's permanent records.
