Mission

The Information Technology Department at Jefferson County Public Schools is responsible for all aspects of administrative and instructional technologies. It is an umbrella organization comprised of the three units listed below. These three units work closely together to advance the mission of Jefferson County Public Schools.

Computer Education Support (CES)

Computer Education Support helps JCPS staff become proficient users of technology and supports student achievement, including technology literacy, through the effective integration of technology into teaching and learning.  CES provides professional development for all staff, implements a technology skills curriculum for students, and supports the integration of technology in the classroom. The CES Unit provides on-site consultation to all school and office locations, develops paper and web-based support materials, and delivers professional development.

Management Information Services (MIS)

Management Information Services (MIS) develops, supports, and operates the District's administrative systems, such as student attendance, staff payroll, and budget systems. MIS also maintains JCPS's data warehouse and staff and student email systems.

MIS's 52 employees are involved in mainframe, database, desktop, and web development and support, as well as computer operations and security.

Telecommunications (Telecom)

Currently, there are over 35,000 workstations, 464 servers, over 6,500 printers, over 5,000 pieces of network equipment, and more than 14,000 telephone handsets being supported and maintained by the Telecommunications Unit.  There are approximately 125 miles of fiber optic infrastructure constructed, owned and maintained by the District which link schools, and approximately 40,000 network drops operating at 10/100 megabit speed in classrooms and offices.  All conventional schools have a 1 gigabit WAN connection, and the District has a 1 gigabit connection to the Internet.  There are also over 2000 wireless access points in use at schools.  The Telecommunications Unit makes approximately 22,000 service calls annually servicing all JCPS locations.
