Director of Minority Teacher Recruitment Project

Position: Instructor and Director of the Minority Teacher Recruitment Project.

The College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) is seeking candidates for a position of instructor and director of the Minority Teacher Recruitment Project (MTRP). The applicant should have demonstrated experience in developing and implementing a teacher/leadership recruitment program designed for people of diverse backgrounds. The instructor and director of MTRP works closely with the College’s Education Advising Center and faculty and staff in the teacher preparation programs in supporting students as they complete their degree programs.

Faculty and staff in the College of Education and Human Development conduct research and participate in community partnerships that affect education in the local school districts and beyond. Focus is also given to cultural diversity in the classrooms and how teaching and learning are evolving to meet the changing needs of our schools.

The University of Louisville is a growing metropolitan research University in an urban area with approximately 21,000 students. The CEHD has been consistently ranked in the top 100 graduate schools of education by U.S. News and World Report. The CEHD also has ranked first in the University for graduate student enrollment. Minimum qualification

  • Master of Education Degree;
  • five or more years of teaching experience;
  • Administrative experience;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with people of diverse backgrounds (i.e., ethnic/cultural diversity, high school graduates, K-12 students, and/or university and community personnel);
  • Familiarity with School/University partnerships, with minority teacher recruitment, and with the challenges districts face related to student achivement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • seven years of teaching experience as a master teacher;
  • Administrative experience (i.e., managing adult workers, budgets, scheduling);
  • Strong initiative;
  • Able to work independently yet collaboratively with wide range of professionals;
  • Strong connections with school districts and schools.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • commitment to inquiry (knowledge), action (practice), and advocacy (making a positive difference), in support of the College’s conceptual framework; 
  • oversee the daily operations of the MTRP office and staff, manage program budget;
  • ensure that program data bases are maintained and updated;
  • work with P-12 school districts, community colleges and UofL to cultivate interests of students in teaching; recruit high school students for the teaching profession; serve as liaison with Kentucky Department of Education and other agencies supporting minority teacher recruitment initiatives;
  • advise and mentor teacher candidates;
  • partner with the faculty of the teacher education programs and the Assistant Dean for Student Services to recruit second-career individuals for alternative teacher preparation programs;
  • write and submit grant proposals to seek external funds for MTRP and write annual reports for partner agencies, the CEHD, and the University.

Appointment: Three-year, renewable term appointment

Salary:  Competitive, based upon qualifications and experience.
