Gus Rice, is the chief rafter for the Jefferson County Public Schools. He leads many field trips to Beargrass Creek, where students explore the natural and cultural environment. They explore the urban infrastucture, learn about the flood wall and boating safety.

He is a retired JCPS special education teacher and is an active sea kayaker.
