How to Use Louisville’s Environmental Reader

Exploring Local Issues, Events, and Experiences

This document is a collection of fiction and non-fiction writing based on the experiences and knowledge gathered by UL Honors students as part of their course work in environmental studies. It is written to serve multiple purposes.

As members of the Louisville Metro community, readers will learn about our local environment and surrounding issues. This web site will carry you to experiences on urban waters, concerns about the impact of environmental toxins, and appreciation of the beauty of our environment despite issues that must be resolved.

For teachers, this document provides examples of writing in a variety of genres, and instructional materials to help students analyze and understand the writing genres while gaining knowledge of our environment through the content. Additionally, materials are included that link the content areas to environmental education, providing an interdisciplinary approach to interpreting the content of the writing pieces.
