Volunteer Talent Center
In operation since 1990, the Volunteer Talent Center recruits, trains, and places volunteers to meet identified local school needs. The options for volunteer service cover a broad rangefrom helping with Every1Reads to volunteering with the PTA or DADS program and from teaching the art of fishing to tutoring and mentoring. There also are unique volunteer opportunities at every JCPS school. While most volunteer activities do not require special skills, all volunteer efforts require patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude. Volunteers select the task, the time, and the site. Depending upon the volunteer activity, the commitment can be for a day, a week, a month, or the entire school year. However, the preferred commitment for tutors and mentors is a minimum of 30 minutes to 1 hour weekly. A security check is required for all participating volunteers. Listed in this website are some of the opportunities available for volunteers. A description, the time commitment, and the training necessary are given for each activity. Other volunteer opportunities are possible, and suggestions are welcome. Volunteer background check form - Form must be on file with local school before parents can volunteer at a school.
