Volunteer Talent Center

The Jefferson County Public Schools Volunteer Talent Center (VTC) invites you to join the ranks of school District volunteers and to participate in activities that can make a genuine difference in the life of a young person.

In operation since 1990, the Volunteer Talent Center recruits, trains and places volunteers to meet identified  student needs .  The options for service cover a broad range – from tutoring and.or mentoring individual students to serving as judges for academic fairs, chaperoning school events and making written books for classroom use.

While many volunteer opportunities are made available through individual schools, some volunteer efforts have a district-wide focus and are linked to specific programs to which the Volunteer Talent Center and the district are committed.  Such programs include the reading program, Every1Reads More; the VISTA Partners Advance Community Education program; Service-Learning; the violence prevention program SPAVA; and the Aquatic Resources Fishing Program.

While most volunteer activities do not require special skills, all volunteer efforts require patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude.

Volunteers select the task, the time, and the site. Depending upon the volunteer activity, the commitment can be for a day, a week, a month, or the entire school year. However, the preferred commitment for tutors and mentors is a minimum of 30 minutes to 1 hour weekly. A security check is required for all participating volunteers.

Volunteer background check form - Form must be on file with local school before parents can volunteer at a school.
