District Overview

Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) is the largest school district in Kentucky and the 26th largest school district in the United States with more than 97,000 students in 87 elementary schools, 23 middle schools, 20 high schools, and 22 other learning centers. JCPS has approximately 13,600 full-time employees and 5,800 teachers. The annual budget is approximately $873.5 million, with 96 percent of the budget directly funding programs and schools (approximately $6,900 per student per year).

Model Procurement

The local public agency provisions of the Kentucky Model Procurement code have been effective within the Jefferson County School District since 1980. These provisions give each local public agency the right to adopt regulations which will assist in the purchasing process. The Jefferson county Board of Education first adopted procurement regulations in September 1980. Under Model Procurement competitive sealed bidding is the preferred method for the procurement of supplies and services. The Jefferson County School District bids any commodity, supply, service or construction project with an aggregate annual dollar expenditure of $20,000 or more.
