Instructional Programs Overview
What's your child's learning style
Each student learns in his or her own way. That’s why we offer instructional programs that match individual learning styles.
- Comprehensive Program: The core instructional program for the JCPS curriculum, the Comprehensive Program emphasizes language arts/English, mathematics, science, and social studies. The program also helps students develop effective communication, critical-thinking, and creative-thinking skills. Contact any JCPS school for more information.
- Advance Program: Along with other options for gifted and talented students, the Advance Program provides challenging coursework at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. For more information, visit the home page for the JCPS Department of Optional, Magnet, and Advance Programs.
- Advanced Placement: Based on a national curriculum, Advanced Placement classes are offered to high school students who want to take a college level course and earn college credit. For more information, contact the counselor at any JCPS high school.
- Honors Program: Supplementing the JCPS curriculum with rigorous study materials and instruction, the Honors Program is available in most middle and high schools. Call any school for more information.
- Exceptional Child Education (ECE): ECE services are available to students with disabilities. The scope of services ranges from consultation to placement in a special school setting. Whenever possible, ECE services are provided in the least restrictive environment with non-disabled students. Most schools in the district provide ECE programs, but not every program is available at every school. For more information, visit the ECE home page. If your child is new to JCPS and already has an Individual Education Plan (IEP) from a prior school, contact ECE Placement at (502) 485-3215.
